The hotel business is struggling, and those in power are realizing it. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Businesses all over the world are learning some hard lessons since the pandemic began, and the hotel industry is no exception. Years of low pay, long hours and poor benefits are catching up with hotel chain CEO’s now struggling to fill huge gaps in their workforce. But according to Business Insider at least those CEO’s are now recognizing there’s a problem with how things have been handled. At a recent hospitality-industry conference, CEO’s in the hotel business admitted they aren’t known as the highest-paying industry or ones providing the most benefits. So now some of them are looking to change the narrative. Hotel companies are now hiking pay and new industry data shows that average hourly wages are at record highs. But compared to other industries the news isn’t that exciting. Hourly wages are still well below many other industries. Hotels are also offering other perks to recruit and retain staff such as bonuses and free accommodation. People are traveling again,  so there needs to be someone there to greet them.
