Taxis in Thailand are giving new meaning to the term “Rooftop Garden.” I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Because of the pandemic, thousands of taxi cabs in Thailand have been sitting in parking lots. A taxi company executive says there is too much competition with not enough demand. As a result, many drivers can’t afford payments on their cars. So they’ve turned over the vehicles. Drivers who surrendered their cars then returned to their homes when the first wave hit last year. And now even more are giving up their keys. So, workers from two taxi companies have turned the abandoned cars into small vegetable plots, with a plot for each car roof. First, they stretched black plastic garbage bags across the top, added soil and then planted a variety of crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and string beans. Workers say the vegetable gardens are both an act of protest against the government which is not providing any financial aid, and a way to feed their staff during this tough time. Unfortunately, it’s not bringing in any money, but it is putting food on the table, from the roof.  Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
