Forbes magazine contributor Kevin Kruse says there are three warning signs to watch for on your first day at a new job. If you experience any or all of them, tell them thanks, but no thanks. It’s based on the idea that first impressions count.
While you should show up on your first day looking professional and prepared to hit the ground running, your new company should also make a good impression. So how can you tell if you just said yes to the wrong people?
Number one, your manager doesn’t spend time with you. If you show up on day one and your boss isn’t there, is too busy to see you, or quickly shakes your hand and passes you off, leave. Research shows that seventy percent of employee engagement is tied to the manager. Great leaders know your start date and will spend some time with you.
