MonopolyMonopoly is getting an upgrade, and some fan favorites aren’t making the cut. Monopoly was introduced in 1903 as a way to demonstrate that an economy which rewards wealth creation is better than one that promotes monopolies. In 1935 the game was published by Parker Brothers and is now distributed by Hasbro and licensed in more than 100 countries. Now the popular family game is undergoing some changes, and the fans are calling the shots. First in 2013 fans voted to get rid on the traditional game piece that was shaped like an iron. Then a couple of days ago Hasbro announced that the fans have spoken again and the thimble game piece is the next to go. Now the surviving game pieces that trace their roots back to the original game and the great depression include the battleship, boot and Scottie dog. In addition to choosing which piece have got to go, fans are also choosing what to replace them with. Choices include monster trucks and flip flops, and Hasbro will announce the winner next month. Looks like the monopoly is under a democracy.
