Want to be a good manager? Sign these people to your team.

Warren Buffett is one of the richest men in the world, and according to him it’s not from investing in companies, but in people. In a 1986 letter to shareholders, Buffett said, “if each of us hires people who are smaller than we are, we shall become a company of dwarfs. But, if each of us hires people who are bigger than we are, we shall become a company of giants.”

According to Buffett, the key to success is hiring people smarter than you and getting out of their way. If he managed a golf team and Tiger Woods or Arnold Palmer joined the team he wouldn’t coach them on how to swing. He says managers should hire people with skills and knowledge greater than your own.

If you don’t want to take his word for it, the mantra was shared by another business tycoon, Apples’ Steve Jobs, whose outsized ego was well known, who said hire smart people, then you don’t have to spend time telling them what to do.
