How To Wear Headphones At Work (The Right Way)

by | Aug 26, 2019

[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]Like wearing headphones at work? This is what people think of you.

Lots of people pop on headphones at work to jam to a little music or podcasts or whatever gets them through the day. But for those around you, the habit can send a “leave me alone” message. Some might even think you’re rude and start blowing you off even if you’re not plugged in.

In some cases, people wear headphones at work because it cuts down on background noise and makes people more productive, but that doesn’t mean people won’t accuse you of being anti-social.

So how do you get a little peace without making enemies? According to Inc.com, make it clear when you can and can’t talk. If someone interrupts, tell them you’re busy and will check in later. Or label blocks of time; mark you calendar or hang a sign so people know when you’re open for business or looking for quiet time.

Finally, notice when more interruptions start happening, such as before a meeting and head them off. Then go ahead and enjoy your alone time.
