Google Maps

Google MapsGoogle maps is trying to get into the calorie counting game, and users don’t want to play.

Google is doing away with a test feature it introduced on its maps app because the public is not pleased. The tool let people know how many calories they would burn if they walked between the two locations they were asking directions for. And while you wouldn’t think there was anything wrong with Google encouraging people to make healthy choices, the feature had two problems.

First, you couldn’t turn it off. Not everyone wants to be reminded that they could use a little exercise every time they go somewhere new. And second, instead of just giving you a number of calories it would translate that into how many mini cupcakes you would burn. Many users took offense to that thinking the company just assumes people are sitting around eating treats all day. They say many people have health issues and the app was making light of that.

Others say it was funny and people are taking cupcakes too seriously. And I thought Google maps was supposed to simply give you directions.
