Gift Cards
Listen Now: Gift Cards
Need some extra cash, check your wallet. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Gift cards, easy to give, nice to receive, and it turns out, easy to forget about. According to a new Bankrate study nearly half of all US adults say that they have at least one gift card, voucher or store credit laying around unused. That averages up to $175 a person, and a grand total of $21 billion. According to the survey young adults are most likely to have unused money. Those holding on to the most value are between the ages of 26 and 41. In most cases, it’s the lowest-income earners who are leaving the money on the table. A senior industry analyst at CreditCards.com says using these vouchers is an easy way to unlock some hidden value. So clean out your wallet, junk drawer or glove compartment and use them before it’s too late. If you’re saving them for a big purchase or to take advantage of an upcoming sale, take note of the expiration date. There is nothing worse than going shopping with less than you expected.
