According to the Freelancers Union about 36% of the U.S. workforce is made up of freelancers, contributing nearly $1.4 trillion a year to the economy. In the next ten years it’s predicted that the majority of American workers will work for themselves. But before you hand in your two weeks’ notice and set up your home office Entrepreneur Magazine says there are a few things you should know.

For example, it doesn’t mean a 20 hour work week. In the past three years the number of part time freelancers went from 59 to 54% while the number of people working full time climbed from 17 to 29%. But it could be good news for your bank account. While income can be a challenge according to linked-in nearly 20% of freelancers say they will be making six figures or more this year.
