Listen Now: Disneyland Cats
[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]
Disneyland’s gates are closed and the park is empty—but there is still something stirring on the grounds.
If you’re not familiar with the ins and outs of the happiest place on earth, there’s a backstage secret for you. The resort is home to a number of cats.
Disneyland allows them to live on the grounds as a low-cost method of pest control. Since cats tend to stay away from strangers, they don’t bother the guests. And with all the food thrown about, they handle the mice.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, they’re easy to spot. They’re common visitors to the heat lamps in the courtyard of the Disneyland Hotel and they sit among the trees near Grizzly River in California Adventure.
Now park operators think the cats are living their best lives. They have free rein of the park and can come and go as they please without any people to bother them. They’re fed and cared for by park workers and local vet clinics and have all the real estate they need.
When the guests are away, the cats will play.
