Dangerous Work

by | Aug 7, 2018

[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]A drug-sniffing dog in Colombia is being reassigned for being too good at her job.

Sombra is a six-year-old German Shepherd that works the port cities in Colombia. So far she’ is credited with sniffing out more than four thousand pounds of cocaine hidden in suitcases, boats and large shipments of fruit.

Unfortunately, the people whose business she is disrupting are not amused. The country’s most powerful drug gang has now offered a reward of seven thousand dollars to whoever kills or captures Sombra. So to keep her safe sombra has been relocated to Bogota where she spends her days sniffing through suspicious cargo at the international terminal.

When her day is over Sombra is transported in a van with tinted windows back to her kennel. During the transport two armed guards usually accompany her.

Sombra’s handlers say her sense of smell is unlike most dogs. They say since news of the threat against her broke she has become a celebrity of sorts. Multiple officers are volunteering to protect her and people routinely ask for pictures.

All in a day’s work.
