Creepy Crawly LoveValentine’s Day is right around the corner; so what are you going to get that special someone? Last year Valentine’s Day became known as America’s $21 billion day of love. Between the flowers, cards, jewelry and candy, people spent just shy of that amount to say Š—“I love you.” So this year instead of heading to Hallmark, See’s or The Diamond Store how about the Bronx Zoo? In 2011 the New York based zoo began a program called the name-a-roach program as a fun way to fund raise a little extra money. For $10 recipients of a Madagascar hissing cockroach get an emailed certificate saying one of the bugs had been named for them. And this year the zoo is throwing in an extra bonus besides the honor of sharing a name. For this Valentine’s Day your loved one will also receive chocolates or a stuffed animal of a Madagascar cockroach for people who donate just a little bit more. And don’t worry about missing out, the zoo says there are thousands of roaches to go around, so why not spread a little love?
