The Coffee Cup Test: The Interview “Question” Most People Miss

by | Jun 7, 2019

[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]Job interviews are a test, especially at one Australian company.

The boss of an accounting software company down under says he has a specific test for those interviewing for a job. And if they fail, he refuses to hire them and they’re blacklisted from ever working at the company.

Why? Because he believes his simple test shows more about someone’s attitude than any question ever could. So how does it work? If you’re doing an interview at Xero australia the boss will take you to one of their kitchens and make sure you end up with some type of beverage. Then they take their drinks and head back to finish the interview.

Here’s where the test comes in. At the end of the interview, he will also notice if the person wants to take the empty cup back to the kitchen and wash it. Doing so he believes shows the person can take on whatever duties are required, while taking the time to think about details.

Plus, if everyone he hires does their dishes it guarantees clean cups in a clean kitchen.
