About six months ago, the seventy-five year old retired high school Spanish teacher walked into a Wisconsin animal shelter. Armed with a brush, he began grooming the cats and after returning for a few days became an official volunteer.
Now his daily routine has morphed into taking naps with the cats that are looking for a forever home. And those daily siestas are bringing in big bucks for the shelter and its residents. When he first fell asleep staff members took a picture of the two and posted it online; the next day the cat was adopted.
In addition, the shelter has raised more than thirty thousand dollars since Terry began taking his naps. The founder of The Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary says people have been donating what they can, even just a few dollars. And thanks to that, the facility is able to do more work rehabilitating animals with special needs or physical problems.
Terry might not be getting paid for his time, but his daily cat naps sure are paying off.
