Calling in Sick
Listen Now: Calling in Sick
Everyone gets sick, but what do you do about work? I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Calling in sick makes workers uncomfortable. They don’t want their boss to think they’re lying; They don’t want to let people down or just might be someone who gets sick a lot. Whatever the reason it can be an awkward call or email to send. But according to TheLadders.com there is a good way to do it. First, let your boss know you’re sick as soon as possible. Don’t wait until you’re about to leave for work to decide you just can’t shake it. Besides, giving bosses notice allows them to better prepare for your absence. Next, remember that less is more. You can just tell them you’re out sick. You don’t need to go into graphic detail about your runny nose or how much time you’re spending in the bathroom. Instead, keep things short and sweet and straight to the point. For some tips on how to do this including examples of emails and texts to send go to BanmillerOnBusiness.com. It happens to all of us.
