Listen Now: Connecting California: 43% of Rural Areas Without Reliable WIFI

Sunne Wright McPeak is president and CEO of the California Emerging Technology Fund, established to approve mergers of major companies and help people get online. Right now forty three percent of rural California communities do not have a reliable internet connection.
“It is alarming because in this digital age when we all need to be connected to do business, to take care of healthcare, to save tips, to be more respectful of the environment. We’ve got 30% of our households being left behind at an accelerating pace.”
McPeak says the solution will take a lot of work.
“it is a national problem it’s recognized by the Federal Communications Commission. Congress has recognized it, the last administration spoke a lot about getting people online but it’s more exacerbated in California and California’s our largest state. No other state has more diverse terrain and geography for building infrastructure than California and at the same time no other state has as many low income people.”
Time for us all to be connected.
