A British hotel chain is holding on to a title competitors are happy to give up.

For the eighth year in a row, Britannia Hotels have been named Britain’s worst option for a place to stay. The list comes from the company Which?. Every year, it ranks the country’s best and worst large hotel chains.

This year, Britannia, which has 62 hotels, received a customer score of 37%. The biggest concern—a lack of cleaning. According to The Guardian, when researchers visited one location, they found stray hairs, stained towels and surfaces not cleaned in days.

Tests in another city found traces of bacteria on the toilet and bathroom door handle, bacteria normally found in a person’s gut or bowel. All things bad in normal times. But in the middle of a pandemic, customers are looking for the most sterile environment possible.

In response, the company said it’s committed to providing a safe space and acknowledged there is more work to be done.

On the winning end of the list? The luxury brand Sofitel, an option for when we hit the road again.
