Back On Track: Will The Belmont Stakes Go On This Year?

Some sporting events are making a comeback, and they look a lot different.

Nascar has come roaring back with the first few races being held over the last week. But the only sound heard is from engines, since the grandstands have no fans and crew sizes are smaller.

Winning drivers report a different experience in victory lane with no team or champagne showers and fewer photographers. But as many at-home viewers say, “it’s better than nothing.”

Now it looks like another sport is returning to a different track. The Belmont Stakes will now lead off The Triple Crown and is scheduled for June 20th. Once again there will be no fans in the stands and the track will be shorter than usual.

Typically, the Kentucky Derby is the first race in The Triple Crown, but that had already been postponed until September because of the pandemic. So, the organizers of the Belmont Stakes are saddling up for what they expect to be a crowded field.

I wonder how they’re going to enforce social distancing, some of those turns get a little crowded.
