Horrible Date? There’s A Code Word For That

Need to escape a bad situation? Order a drink.

Students at Florida Atlantic University have found a way to get women out of a bad date or uncomfortable encounter.

Here’s how it works: If a woman orders an “owl shot neat” from the bartender that means they need an escort to their car. An “owl shot on the rocks” means they need a ride called for them, and an “owl shot with lime” means they feel unsafe and need the bartender to call police.

Participating bars have hung these signs in women’s bathrooms and say the response has been good. The school’s student body president told the local CBS station she went door-to-door to ask businesses if they were interested and everyone wanted to partner up.

Now, more than a dozen bars and restaurants are listening for the code word. The student body president says students frequent these places for first dates or a night on the town.

If things take a turn it’s good to know they have a safe way out. Plus, it’s a good look for the participating businesses.
