Adulting: The Latest Hit Class On The Berkeley Campus

by | Sep 13, 2019

[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]School is meant to prepare you for real life. But that real life requires more than just showing up for work.

When most people grab their degrees and head out into the world, they might be qualified to land a job but what about the rest of it? Things such as paying taxes, building a resume and avoiding credit card debt.

UC Berkeley might have the answer in a class all about “adulting.” Part of the student-run program, the class was started by a junior biology student who noticed a few blind spots in her education.

She says there are a lot of things you never learn and that causes a lot of anxiety post-graduation. And she isn’t the only one feeling this way. The debut spring semester had one hundred applicants for the thirty seat class; this year there will be two sessions.

Since the people running the class aren’t quite old enough to buy alcohol they turn the adulting lessons over to professionals such as accountants and psychologists. In the real world, a failing grade could mean living on your parents couch.
