A Scary Time of Year

The holiday season is around the corner–but it doesn’t look the same.

Before 2020 took a turn for the worse, people were excited that this year Halloween falls on a Saturday. But now, thanks to a pandemic that just won’t quit, celebrations are being altered.

The Annual Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival in California was set to celebrate its 50th Anniversary–but is now cancelled. Organizers are hoping to still hold its giant pumpkin weigh-off in hopes a potential record breaker from the UK can make the trip.

Events in Sleepy Hollow, NY and Shawnee, Kansas have also been given the ax. In some cases, activities have been altered for safety.

In North Kansas City, Missouri, the Halloween in the Park event was cancelled, but families can come down and pick up a mystery box with candy and other surprises. Some corn mazes and haunted houses are opening with social distance and restrictions in place.

Stores say people are still stocking up on bags of Halloween candy–but that could just be for stress eating.
