Guns Vs The Guitar

Potential rock stars are left looking for a new outlet, now that the music has died on the video game guitar.

Earlier this week the company behind the Guitar Hero franchise announced it was pulling the plug after six years of rocking. This follows Viacom’s November decision of selling the Rock Band video games. While both games enjoyed a long time popularity spree, video game analysts say they can’t hold their own against the “shoot em up” games. Especially because they tend to be more expensive considering you need to buy the game, the guitar and the microphone just to play. Trigger Happy Decisions

Have a big decision to make? You might want to take up a new trigger happy hobby.

Researchers from Rochester University in New York say people, who play violent, first person shooter games are able to make faster decisions in real life. Games like “Call of Duty” and “Unreal Tournament” leave you with a heightened sensitivity which leads to more efficient use of your senses.

Researcher Daphne Bavelier says these benefits only come from the more violent games, where the player is wandering around unsure of when the bad guy will appear. The player is relying on all their senses and only has seconds to make a move when something pops up.  read more »
