Guns Vs The Guitar

Potential rock stars are left looking for a new outlet, now that the music has died on the video game guitar.

Earlier this week the company behind the Guitar Hero franchise announced it was pulling the plug after six years of rocking. This follows Viacom’s November decision of selling the Rock Band video games. While both games enjoyed a long time popularity spree, video game analysts say they can’t hold their own against the “shoot em up” games. Especially because they tend to be more expensive considering you need to buy the game, the guitar and the microphone just to play. Throw in the drum set and you’re imaginary rock band can put you out a couple hundred dollars.

The announcement caused the company’s stock to take a tumble but investors are optimistic. Especially since the company is also responsible for one of the most profitable war games ever. Call of Duty: Black Ops is mostly set during the Vietnam War. Its release just before last Christmas brought in one billion dollars after just six weeks in stores. It seems the music industry can’t keep up with our trigger happy society.
