Listen Now: Your Golden Years
Researchers from the American College, Eastern New Mexico University and Texas Tech looked at financial and lifestyle data from more than fifteen hundred retirees. Their goal is to determine what makes retirement more satisfying. And they found that there are three things you can do to tilt the odds in your favor.
First, spend more money on having fun. Shelling out money for trips and nice dinners gives us more pleasure than new tires or an oil change. And it takes you outside of your daily life and routine.
Next is to nurture your personal relationships. You’re going to be spending a lot more time with your spouse and your friends so take the time to evaluate which ones are more important to you and make sure that those people know it.
Finally, maintain your health. You can’t enjoy your hard earned money or your friends if you’re spending all your time with your doctor or in bed. They’re called your golden years for a reason.
