TV BlackoutA British TV network is encouraging people to get outside and exercise, and it went dark to prove its point. ITV shut down all of its programs last Saturday for one hour to help people get off the couch and into a gym. And that means all programs on all channels. It was all a lead up to this weekend where all of the sports clubs are opening to everyone for free. The nationwide effort is called Š—“I am team GB” and its purpose is to challenge the nation’s couch potatoes. And it looks like the gimmick paid off. On social media people were thanking the network for going dark and talked about the various activities they participated in instead. Besides hitting the gym people took up some outdoor adventures that included swimming, running and hiking. And of course there were those who couldn’t be bothered getting off the couch and poked fun at the gesture describing the blacked out channels as some of the best television they’ve ever seen. Or they got in a pretty good thumb work out finding something else to watch.
