The Art of Divorce

by | Apr 17, 2018

The Art of DivorceRussell Crowe is back on the market and he has Hollywood to thank for his newfound freedom.

To help fund his divorce from Danielle Spencer, the Australian actor auctioned off some of his belongings. But this wasn’t your ordinary yard sale; instead Crowe unloaded movie memorabilia from some of his biggest hits to eager fans. Around two hundred items went on the Sotheby’s auction block in a sale Crowe called “the art of divorce.”

Some popular items were from his oscar winning role in the movie “gladiator.” A breastplate he wore when his character Maximus dies sold for about $11,000. The aluminum prop sword he used during the movie’s fight scene with a tiger brought $65,000.

One unusual item on the auction block was the groin protector he wore while playing boxer James Braddock in “Cinderella Man.” That very personal item made him $6,500. In total the auction brought in two point eight million dollars to help crowe pay for his divorce from spencer.

This may be a new Hollywood business model.
