Many employers use this time of year to show their employees a little gratitude. And in most cases that gratitude includes appetizers, music and an open bar. So if you’re planning on getting festive in your off hours, employment lawyers have ten tips to keep things professional.
For example, rides. Employers should have transportation home available for people coming to the party. In the time of Uber and Lyft it shouldn’t be hard to make sure everyone gets home safely if they’ve had a few too many.
Another tip is to make sure the party is voluntary. If you make it mandatory that opens the door to several legal liabilities from getting paid for it and liability concerns.
You should also weight the pros and cons of letting people bring a plus one. Some think that this prevents employees from misbehaving, others say that it can insert the unknown into the situation.
