Halloween Spending

Halloween SpendingHalloween is right around the corner and people are pulling off a lot of tricks to pay for this year’s treats.

According to the National Retail Federation we are expected to spend just over $9 billion on Halloween this year, an 8% increase over last year. Fueling the highest jump since the survey was first conducted? A rise in the number of people that plan to celebrate meaning more money is being spent on costumes, decorations and candy.

A spokesman for the National Retail Federation says a big reason for the increase in spending is the influence of social media. Nearly two thirds of the people surveyed say they will look to sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. And since seeing what other people are doing fuels a little competition people are spending more money to make their social media posts that much more spectacular.

This year’s survey also found that most people are less concerned with the state of the economy than previous years. A trend that experts believe will continue with an increase in Halloween spending becoming more regular. What a treat.
