Interview QuestionsPreparing for a job interview? Turns out there are four types of questions many employers think can make or break you.

Rebekah Rombom is Vice President of Career Services and Business Development at Flatiron, a school where students learn how to code. She says while there is no single question that can sum up everything a potential employer wants to know, there are a few that can get to the heart of the matter pretty quickly.

For example, “why are you excited about this job?” Hiring managers say this one is all about seeing how much, or if any research about the company the candidate has done. It shows how familiar you are with the job and you know what you applied for.

Another question to filter people out? “Tell me about a time when you solved a problem relevant to the job.” This tells employers how you have handled problems in your life or career and if you’ve learned from them.

Questions number three and four: “Our business is experiencing [this specific problem]. How would you think through solving it?” and “Are you aligned with our values?”
