Shredded Cash
In today’s world there’s a solution for everything; including $6,000 of shredded cash.
A Taiwanese man, who only gave his last name as Lin dropped a bag containing $6,600 U.S. dollars into his factory’s shredding machine. But thanks to a forensic scientist every last bill has been recovered and pieced back together. Upon realizing his mistake Lin had the shredded bills transferred to the forensics division of the justice ministry’s special investigations unit. There scientist Liu Hui-Fen, nicknamed the “jigsaw expert” was able to put the cash back together.
The Special Investigations Unit offers a special repair service for cash that has been shredded, burned or damaged in anyway. A Ministery official says they receive about 250 cases each year. In this case Hui-Fen was able to piece the bills back together in seven days. A job she says required a lot of patience. Taiwan’s central bank says the notes have been restored to its requirement for three-quarter completeness and the cash has been returned to Mr. Lin to spend freely. Hopefully this time he will be more careful. I wonder if the jigsaw expert could put Humpty Dumpty back together again?
