High Speed Election
Campaign season is heating up and one candidate is hoping to speed away from the competition.
Nonpartisan candidate for Governor Eugene Disimone is pitching a racy idea to voters in Nevada. To help fix the budget crisis Disimone is suggesting the state tap into the lead footed and charge people who want to speed on freeways.
He calls the idea the “free limit plan” and believes if people start paying for the right to drive up to 90 miles per hour the state will make an additional one billion dollars a year. To qualify, the driver’s vehicle would have to pass a safety inspection. Then the cars information would be loaded into a state database and drivers would purchase a transponder. Once the account is set up, anyone who desires to travel a little faster can dial in to the database. Twenty five dollars will be charged to a credit card and they are free to speed for up to 24 hours with no legal repercussions.
The Nevada highway patrol isn’t a fan of this effort to bring in votes, saying it will lead to increased accidents and injuries. I guess it’s up to the voters to decide how much their time is really worth.
