High Flying Thief
On a long flight you expect bad food, cramped legs and unruly neighbors. You don’t expect to get robbed.
Earlier this week an Air France stewardess was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of Euros in cash, jewelry and credit cards. A local newspaper reported that police had been investigating the stewardess, known only as Lucie R. For several months. Police say the investigation started in January after five passengers reported about $5,000 missing.
Lucie R. Who worked mainly in business class was immediately suspected because her bank accounts showed a large gap between her lifestyle and her declared income. According to the newspaper she launched her crime spree to ease financial problems. Since January there have been about 140 thefts but Lucie R. Has only confessed to 26. Her main target was the Japanese because they are known for lots of cash instead of paying for things with credit cards. Traveler’s checks, checkbooks and watches were also commonly swiped from sleeping passengers.
Travelers are always warned about pick pockets. You just don’t expect the picking to start before you even arrive.
