An App Among the Stars

Want to know more about space exploration and the possibility of living on mars? There’s an app for that.

Famous for being the second man to walk on the moon, astronaut Buzz Aldrin is now leaving his mark on the iPad. His Buzz Aldrin Portal to Science and Space Exploration app, also available on the iPhone covers Aldrin’s take on the current space program. Aldrin says with a greater commitment to the program we could have a permanent colony of people on Mars in about 25 years.

The app, available for $2.99 includes a to-do list for President Obama, video clips and information about mars exploration. It will also live stream NASA television and provide information on privately funded ventures into space exploration. Aldrin plans to incorporate more features on the 50th anniversary of John f. Kennedy’s moon speech, happening May 25th 2011. Aldrin says the iPad and iPhone are evolving communication devices. Aldrin says most if not all education will be made into tailor made categories and carried out through applications.

And while this might be a small step for the technologically savvy, it’s a giant leap for anyone who remembers Aldrin’s first steps on the moon.
