Bathroom Dining

Restaurant goers in Boston may soon have a couple more options for eating out, as long as they don’t mind eating in the bathroom.

In a new twist on recycling Boston park officials went before state lawmakers earlier this week, to lease two former public restrooms for use as restaurants. The cities Park and Recreation Commission is hoping the public can get past the idea of eating near what used to be a urinal and embrace the proposed project.

The bathrooms in question are the “Pink Palace” a 660 square foot structure and the 670 square foot “Duck House,” haven’t been used as bathrooms in decades. But since most people don’t use a toilet as a table both structures will require extensive renovations. The public has yet to jump on board with bathroom dining but park officials are optimistic and think the locations are prime spots for privately run, limited service restaurants. In this economy it’s hard work getting a new business off the ground, especially if that new business is starting out in the toilet.
