Inauguration may break Capital bank.

If you think the bailout is expensive, wait until you find out how much change the change in Washington will cost you.

According to the D-C Examiner, huge crowds are expected for the inauguration of President-elect Obama on January 20th. And with it comes a record breaking bill for services. Each year the Federal Government gives the district $15 million dollars to cover the costs of events. But with huge crowds expected, security costs will far surpass that amount.

In 2005 the inauguration of President Bush cost $17 million with 300,000 people in attendance. But officials predict five times as many people crowding into the capital for this presidential transition. Police chief Cathy Lanier is bringing in an additional 4,000 police officers from all over the country to handle the large crowds.

Officials planning the event say they are throwing out the old book on planning the inauguration. There will be standing room only on the mall, and they are considering opening private sites such as the Verizon Center and National Park to accommodate visitors without tickets. But use of these facilities can cost two hundred thousand dollars in rent alone.

With costs rising to cover the crowds this could be a historic day in more ways than one.
